Annual Dinner 2025 -- Friday, 24th January from 7pm onwards

The President and the Committee request the pleasure of your company at the Cambridge Society Annual Dinner 2025.

We are most pleased to announce that this dinner will be held once again at the prestigious  Cercle Royal Gaulois, Rue de la Loi 5, 1000 Brussels.

The dress code is black tie or smart evening dress.  Smart lounge suits and smart ladies' business attire is acceptable. Gentlemen are expected to wear ties. Academic attire and national costumes are especially welcome.

Herman Van Rompuy, Speaker and Guest of Honour - Former President of the European Council and  Former Prime Minister of Belgium

We are proud to welcome Count Herman Van Rompuy, former President of the European Council and former Prime Minister of Belgium, as our Speaker and Guest of Honour.

The Count will talk on the subject of
“Europe in a Dangerous World”

Count Herman Van Rompuy – Former President of the European Council.

Herman Van Rompuy was elected as the first full-time President of the European Council in 2009, and after his re-election, held this office until November 2014. Before this he was Prime Minister of Belgium.

A former economist at the National Bank of Belgium, Herman Van Rompuy began his political career in 1973 as national Vice-President of his party’s youth movement. He was President of the Flemish Christian Democrats. He served in the Belgian Parliament first as Senator and then Member of the House of Representatives.

Born in Brussels in 1947, he holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Economics from the KUL. He has four children and nine grandchildren.

He was professor at the KUL. He also taught at UC Louvain, Science Po in Paris, and the College of Europe (both Bruges & Natolin). He was the President of the European Policy Centre. He is President of the Administrative Council of the College of Europe.

King Philip granted him the noble title of Count and his wife, Geertrui,  the title of Countess.

Registration and Payment

We would like all members and their partners to feel they can attend (guests welcome, if space allows!). The Cercle Royal Gaulois has a limited capacity so we suggest that you register quickly to avoid any disappointment at this special event.

The ticket price for Full Members & their partners is €75 per person. 

"Full Members" are Members of the Cambridge Society of Belgium who have paid their annual subscription, or "Honorary Members" of the Society, or Student Members (Cambridge alumni who are full-time students, see also "30 and under pricing"). For membership information please see here 

 

We would like to offer some special concessions & other pricing:

  • Firstly, a special price for Full Members who are 30 years old or younger of €50 per person.  Partners of those in this category pay €75 per person (Full Member partner price);
  • Secondly, members and their partners of our reciprocating alumni organisations at €75 per person.  (These sister organisations are: The Cambridge Alumni Societies of other countries, INSEAD Alumni of Belgium -- other organisations please enquire).
  • Thirdly, guests or members of other alumni organisations at €90 per person.  (e.g. Ryder Group in general.)
  • Lastly, the possibility of attendance subsidised by society funds if anyone should be in a position of genuine need (please confidentially contact isabelle@camsoc.be or our Hon. President, Steven);

Please confirm your attendance by preferably clicking here before midnight Friday, 17th January (or email isabelle@camsoc.be) and make your payment to the Cambridge Society bank account (BE26 0689 0251 7329 in the name of "Cambridge Society of Belgium”)  mentioning "Annual Dinner 2025", your name (if it is not crystal clear from your bank account title), and how many persons and at which pricing.

Your participation is confirmed once your payment has been received and accepted. Please no last minute requests.
