Departure
The bus will begin boarding at 9h10 near the Central Station of Brussels in Cardinal Mercier Street (https://goo.gl/maps/oZsoF33wWFN2). Our President, Steve Laycock, will be waiving the Cambridge flag at our bus so you won’t be able to miss it. In case of necessity, he can be reached at +32 477 32 27 46. Write down or save to your phone either Steve’s or Kenneth’s phone number (+32 471 87 47 79) in case you may need it on the day. We thank you for providing us with a phone number on which we could contact you.
Please be on time. The bus will leave sharply at 9h30 and cannot afford any delays due to the traffic situation in Brussels on that day. Sunday 17 September is a day without cars. However, this will not affect the trip or your ability to reach the departure point by car nor to return in the evening, since the timing coincides with our trip. We would recommend however, if you come by car, to allow sufficient time to get into the city and find parking.
Programme
We are expected to arrive at the Tyne Cot Memorial in Passendale at around 11h, from where we will make our way down to the Passchendaele Memorial Museum 1917 to visit the dugout and the museum.
After the visit we go to the museum of the Passendale cheese factory for a late lunch.
In the afternoon we will be hosted by the Belgian vineyard Entre-Deux-Monts in Westouter near the French border, for a harvest tour of the domain and a tasting of the EDM wines.
As early evening commences, the bus will take us to Ieper, where we have some free time before The Last Post ceremony preceded by the laying of a wreath on behalf of the Oxford and Cambridge Societies.
Before we return to Brussels, we enjoy a light supper on the Ieper/Ypres central square with a view of the cloth hall and belfry. If you have not yet indicated all the food choices of your party please do so by replying to this email. The choice is between pork cheeks with [local beer ]St. Bernardus sauce and potatoes or a vegetarian dish with rice and crispy vegetables.
Our estimated return time in Brussels will be between 22h30 and 23h00.
