"The memory of Congo : the colonial era”
Sunday October 2nd 2005
The committee of the Oxford University Society of Belgium are delighted to announce that the next event will be a visit to the exhibition on "The memory of Congo : the colonial era” currently running at the Africa Museum at Tervuren.
This will take place on Sunday 2nd October, we will meet at 4.15 p.m. outside the main entrance to the museum for a guided tour at 4.30 p.m. (in English) of this special exhibition. The museum closes at 6 p.m.
After this, we shall be gathering at the pub "Den Engel", just opposite the entrance to the church in the centre of Tervuren, for drinks and a talk by Barbara Emerson, Oxford historian and author, who recently wrote a well received biography on King Leopold II. The talk is expected to start at 7:15 p.m. at the latest.
The talk will be followed by dinner (optional) at the same location.
For those who wish to participate, there will be no charge for the talk and drinks. As usual, family and friends are welcome.
The charge for the museum visit will be 5 euro per person, payable on the spot.
The charge for the dinner will be 30 euro per person, all inclusive, payable on the spot.
We would like to know by Monday, 26 September, exactly how many will take part in any or all of the activities. This is particularly important for the organisational aspects of the guided tour and the dinner. In your replies please make clear in which part of the programme you wish to participate(hopefully in all) .
There should be no parking problems in the centre of Tervuren after 6 pm : parking is free of charge then and there is ample space on the square near the church.
