Members Meeting 10th September at Il Fatto
We are pleased to invite all members of the Cambridge Society of Belgium to a get-together on the evening of Monday 10th September, from 18.30 . This evening will have the following important items on the agenda. If you are unable to join us, do send me any written comments about the first item on the agenda.
(1) Discussion about the proposed winding up of the Cambridge Society (of Cambridge!) in its current format and its replacement by an enhanced role for the Cambridge Alumni Relations Office. As a Cambridge graduate, you should have received detailed information about this, and an invitation to an Extraordinary General Meeting in Cambridge on 22nd September. These documents contain assurances that the role of local Cambridge Societies (such as our Cambridge Society of Belgium) will continue as at present, with additional support from the Alumni Relations Office (see paragraphs B13 and C18 in particular). However, one of our most committed and long-standing members has raised concerns that this process may lead to greater centralised control and significant erosion of our local autonomy.
(2) Annual Dinner for 2008. I am delighted to announce that Lord Watson, Chairman of the Cambridge Foundation, has agreed to be our dinner speaker. The date will be either 21st or 22nd January 2008, so please put those dates in your diary, and we hope to confirm arrangements very soon.
(3) Other activities. As normal, we will also discuss plans for future activities and promote networking among members in a convivial atmosphere.
We will convene in the lounge bar of "Il Fatto" from 18.30 - 19.30, and members who wish can then enjoy a pizza or pasta dish in the next-door "La Locanda" restaurant.
