10th November, (Weds)

Oxbridge Film Circle

Frances Robinson has launched the wonderful initiative of setting up a Film Society and is proposing to start us off with the following film:

La Vie Sexuelle Des Belges

A film society is complement to any alumni organisation, so please join us for the inaugural meeting! The plan is to go to see intellectually stimulating films both new and old, from European and further afield, in English and other languages, before discussing them in an informal setting over a few drinks. As we're based in Brussels, where better to start than La Vie Sexuelle Des Belges (The Sex Life of the Belgians) which is showing as part of the Cinemathek'sBelgorama season and "looks at 20 years of social change in Belgium through the lens of [the narrator]'s own disastrous sexual adventures" according to the New York Times.

It's showing on Wednesday 10th November at 7.00 p.m. with a bilingual introduction (French and Flemish) by film journalists Jan Temmerman and Philippe Reynaert. More details here: http://www.cinematek.be/?node=17&event_id=400933600. Be warned there are no English subtitles.

Tickets are 3 euros and can be booked online (with a 50 cent booking fee), by phone on the day, or on the door. Seating isn't assigned and there's no special group booking option so let's meet at the cinema at 6.30 p.m. (they have an exhibition about Belgian film to see while we wait). As of Wednesday there were over 100 seats available so we should be OK.

Afterwards we could go for a drink at La Morte Subite, which is 10 minutes' walk away on rue Montagne aux Herbes Potageres, to stay with the Belgian theme.

Suggestions for future films are more than welcome -- perhaps we could see an English-lanaguage one next? There are some great retrospectives at the Cinemathek and contemporary art house films at the Arenberg. Directions to the Cinemathek and other details are available on the website here: http://www.cinematek.be/?node=11&lng=fr

We hope to see many of you next Wednesday.
