Speaker evening with Professor Philippe van Parijs, Tuesday 17th June 2014
Professor Philippe van Parijs, Hoover Professor of Economic and Social Ethics at Louvain-la-Neuve, has agreed to speak to us on the topic "Brussels and the future of Belgium".
Philippe van Parijs is an interesting and challenging figure, quite apart from his radical philosophical and political ideas he is the organizer of the campaign to free the central boulevards of Brussels from traffic: he arranged the "picnics" that blocked them on successive Sundays last summer. He also has lots of interesting ideas about the future of Belgium and Brussels.
He studied for a DPhil at Oxford and is currently a visiting fellow at Nuffield.
The formula is the usual, popular one for such events, but we have had to change the venue for the talk, and consequently also the restaurant used afterwards.
The talk will take place at the Quaker House, Square Ambiorix 50, 1000 BXL, starting at 18.45 with a drinks reception. The talk will start at 19.15 and be followed by a discussion.
Those who wish will then proceed to the restaurant "L'Atelier" for dinner, which is 'prix-fixe' €35 and consists of quiche aux épinards et Stilton, pavé de boeuf grillé, sauce Roquefort (vegetarian option tagliatelles au coulis de tomates cerises, roquette et copeaux de parmesan) and panaché de crème glacée.
